Watching football matches!

Oh the fun!

The most popular league I have grown up hearing, discussing about is the English Premier league. May be the stars or the WAGS, they have ruled the roost!

Scene at home:
Wait impatiently till the match. You may have to compensate by studying up in advance so as to be able to buy some free time. Everyone was obedient when back in school! If it is a late night match, one closes the door of the parents' bedroom tightly so that they do not experience the wrath of the your overflowing enthusiasm and energy. Maa in a good mood may leave you some popcorn to have which would obviously get finished in the first 10 min. Close miss, a straight red or a deafening 30 yard volley, your high decibel shrieks are quickly muffled by your hand or your sibling's hand so that you do not wake your parents up. But the initial shriek may oft be enough to garner disapproving sounds and scolding from the other room! Dad wakes up in the middle of the night just to check on the score ask soe vital stats which you would start describing in excessive detail (a shrink may diagnose circumstantiality there and then!) due to the energy and end up being cut off by the uninterested wave of a hand by a sleepy father!

As the earth revolved around the Earth a few more times, Champions league and important Spanish La Liga (El Classico especially)  matches also caught the attention.

Well, not exactly the scenes. formals - boxers, no girls (unfortunately), hall - tiny miny room..but, I hope you get the drift!
Scene at hostel:
The supporters get separated. Some rooms are chosen as home for one team and others as away! paranthas, maggis and beer may be checked on the wishlist in preparation for the much awaited match. Due to absence of televisions, matches are streamed over internet. nkora.com, firstrowsports.com and the likes --  Jai Ho! As soon as the clock strikes the destined time, various links are furiously clicked to get the best footage of the match which is devoid of any pauses and stupid ads etc. If the streaing is not good, a string of calls are made and the only question asked is, "Aa raha hai kya?" If the answer is no, do not waste your time, next option! In the end 15 people or more assemble in a single room, reserve their 1ft x 1ft area on the bed, floor, stool or any other seating medium available. Many a times, ill fate makes us listen to the commentary in some weird spanish, arabic or brazilian language. Its extremely hilarious when a team scores as the commentator goes, golgolgolgolgolgolgol', if he is spanish; 'goooooooooooooaaaaaallll', if he is brazilian, 'allah blah blah allah then something allah allah', if arabic. Besides the vehement support, cheering, jeering that follows a goal, everyone is splits at the accent of the commentator. As the match reaches a decisive period of time, bets start flowing in. They may range from 'nanga dodaunga' to snickers and a hefty Rs. 100/- Expert comments flow like a gushing waterfall! And the swearing - tauba tauba!
As the final whistle blows, the inebriated, biased, emotional minds start celebrating or cursing or discussing the match further. Rival teams mock or break into impromptu gigs or shy away! Nescafe is flocked by such gentlemen.
Its a brilliant experience!
And in the end, bearing allegiance to my favourite team, respect! GGMU!
